JAMES LUBY FROM TRANENT CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES NEAR MUSSELBURGH PRIMARY SCHOOL
In a disturbing development, it has come to light that James Luby, a resident of Tranent, has been residing alarmingly close to a primary school in Musselburgh.Recent reports reveal that Luby has been housed just 100 yards from Campie Primary School, situated on the same street as the educational institution.
This proximity raises serious concerns given the number of children who walk alone along that route daily, potentially exposing them to a dangerous individual with a troubling past.
Back in 2022, Luby, aged 59, was involved in a criminal investigation that uncovered a disturbing collection of child abuse images.
The police executed a search warrant at his residence on Blawearie Road in Tranent, where they discovered hundreds of illicit images and videos depicting young children being sexually exploited by adults.
The material included some of the most depraved categories, with children as young as eight years old being featured in sexually explicit acts.
The police found that Luby had stored these illegal materials on his mobile phone over a two-month period in 2019.
He was scheduled to be sentenced earlier this month at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after admitting to possessing and creating indecent images of children in September.
However, Luby failed to appear in court, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for his arrest.
When he finally appeared from custody last Wednesday, it was revealed that he had not attended scheduled meetings for social work reports, which are typically part of the sentencing process.
As a result, he was remanded in custody, with his sentencing hearing postponed to the following Wednesday.
The police confirmed that during the search, officers recovered 118 images and 20 videos classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of depravity.
These materials depicted children aged between eight and 12 years old engaged in sexual activities with adult men.
Luby pleaded guilty to the charges of possessing these indecent images, which spanned from January 22 to March 18, 2019, at his home.
He also admitted to offenses related to the taking or allowing the taking of such images during the same period.
The sheriff has placed him on the sex offenders' register on an interim basis, pending a full sentencing scheduled later this month, underscoring the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing legal proceedings.
