KEVIN GORRIE SENTENCED FOR FIVE-YEAR DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A COUNTY man who carried out a five-year campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner has been banned from contacting the woman for five years.Kevin Gorrie engaged in a course of behaviour that was abusive of the woman at addresses in Musselburgh and Tranent between January 1, 2020, and February 1, 2025.
Gorrie, 24, acted aggressively towards his victim on several occasions, including by placing his head against hers, pushing her against a wall and seizing her by the clothing.
Other occasions saw Gorrie shout and swear at the woman, while one episode saw him straddle his victim and pin her on a bed.
In addition, Gorrie isolated the woman from her friends and repeatedly accused her of infidelity during their relationship.
He also shouted abuse at her in the presence of her child, shouted, swore, acted aggressively and smashed a mobile phone belonging to her.
Gorrie, of Mar Grove, Musselburgh, denied the allegations prosecuted under section 1 of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm Act (Scotland) 2016 and stood trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last November.
Following all the evidence, Sheriff Daniel Kelly found the accused guilty of the offences and sentence was deferred for a social work report to be prepared.
Gorrie returned to the dock last Friday and was sentenced to a community payback order where he will be supervised by the social work department for the next two years.
He was ordered to attend appointments with the domestic abuse organisation Caledonian Men's Programme for the same length of time as part of his sentence.
Sheriff Kelly also issued Gorrie with a non-harassment order that prohibits him from having any contact with the woman or entering her home for the next five years.
