TRANENT PAEDOPHILE JAMES GIVAN GUILTY OF HORRIFIC SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON SCHOOLGIRLS
A PAEDOPHILE is facing a lengthy jail sentence after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting two young schoolgirls and showing a video of him naked in the shower to two other children.James Givan preyed on one 13-year-old victim during shocking sex attacks at an address in Tranent.
Givan made the girl perform a sex act on him during the horrific incidents carried out between July 2023 and January 2024.
He also targeted friends of the child when he demanded that one girl send him explicit images, while he also sent her pictures of him topless.
Givan, of Portland Street, Leith, showed two children a graphic video of him naked in the shower and he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old victim by repeatedly attempting to kiss her.
Givan denied all the allegations against him but was found guilty of five child sex offences by a jury following a five-day trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
Defence advocate Jonathan Campbell said that he would reserve all his mitigation to the sentencing hearing and asked for his client’s bail to be continued in the meantime.
Sheriff Alison Stirling agreed to the bail request and placed 35-year-old Givan on the sex offenders' register on an interim basis.
Sheriff Stirling deferred sentence for a social work report and a risk assessment to be prepared to next month and forwarded his name to Scottish Ministers to be added to the list of those banned from working vulnerable groups in the future.
Givan was found guilty of intentionally causing a 13-year-old child to look at a sexual image and showing her a video of him naked in the shower at an address in Prestonpans on various occasions between March 31 and April 17, 2023.
He was also found guilty of directing verbal communications to a 13-year-old child by requesting she send him explicit images and sending her an image of him topless at an address in Tranent on various occasions between August 31, 2023, and January 21, 2024.
Givan was further found guilty by the jury of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old child by touching her sexually and making her perform a sex act on him at the Tranent home on various occasions between July 9, 2023, and January 21, 2024.
He was also found guilty of inviting a 12-year-old girl into his bed, attempting to show her a video of him naked in the shower and sexually assaulting the girl by repeatedly attempting to kiss her at the Tranent address, all between January 1 and December 28, 2023.
