CUMBERNAULD TEACHER CONVICTED OF DOMESTIC ABUSE DECLARED 'FIT TO TEACH' AFTER BAN
A Cumbernauld teacher who subjected his ex-partner to four years of domestic abuse has been deemed 'not unfit to teach'.Jakub Nipps’ actions were found to be a 'serious departure of standards' following the revelation that he threatened to kill his partner and their dog during a period of abuse.
He was convicted at Greenock Sheriff Court of abusing his ex-partner between March 1, 2020 and April 7, 2024.
His case was reviewed by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), which heard about his concerning pattern of abusive behavior.
The GTCS panel considered his actions a 'serious departure of standards' and banned him from teaching for two years, though it concluded he remains 'not unfit to teach' because the conviction did not involve physical injury to pupils or the school setting.
Despite expressing 'genuine remorse', he was imposed a two-year ban and a 12-month non-harassment order.
The panel noted the court's requirement for him to engage in offense-focused work to address his behavior, and Nipps has 28 days to appeal the decision.
