JACOB HERANWA FROM HUNTINGDON SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE
In January 2018, a man from Huntingdon, Jacob Heranwa, was handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of multiple counts of child rape.The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the breach of trust involved.
Jacob Heranwa, aged 49 and residing on Bernard Close in Huntingdon, was found guilty of raping a very young girl on three separate occasions.
The victim was under the age of 13, and the crimes took place while Heranwa was in a position of responsibility and trust over the girl, which he exploited maliciously.
The defendant had initially denied all charges, specifically three counts of raping a child under 13.
However, after a four-day trial at Peterborough Crown Court, the jury found him guilty on all counts.
The court's decision underscored the severity of his actions and the betrayal of trust involved.
On Thursday, 18 January, Heranwa was sentenced to 17 years in prison for each of the three counts, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The judge also imposed an eight-year extended license period upon his release, meaning he will be under supervision for a significant time after serving his prison term.
In addition to his imprisonment, Heranwa was subjected to a series of restrictions aimed at preventing further harm.
An indefinite restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from making any contact with the victim’s family.
Furthermore, he was placed under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact to protect the community and prevent any future offenses.
