MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLED AND VIOLENT ABUSE OF PARTNER
A man named Alvaro Ferreira, aged 50, from Christie Drive in Huntingdon, has been sentenced for his repeated abusive behavior towards his partner.Police reported that Ferreira was involved in ongoing abuse, including physical violence and controlling behaviors, throughout their relationship.
He was known to have previously received a suspended sentence for actual bodily harm last year.
Despite this, when his partner reacquired contact with him, the abusive actions persisted, culminating in a serious attack in December which led to his arrest.
Ferreira admitted to engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, which included physically assaulting his partner, threatening to disfigure her and harm her so badly that she would be in a wheelchair during Christmas.
The police detailed that Ferreira would punish her by hitting her when she tried to leave, accuse her of cheating, impersonate her to her family via messaging, and confiscate her phone to prevent her from calling for help.
Moreover, he took control of her finances, accessing her bank account without permission and transferring £750 into his account.
Following her escape after his last attack, Ferreira was detained.
The court sentenced him to three years and ten months in prison, effectively activating his previous suspended sentence.
He was also issued a restraining order to prevent further contact.
Detective Constable Katey Shaw commented that Ferreira had multiple opportunities to change but continued his violent and controlling behavior, emphasizing that no one should endure such treatment in a relationship and praising the victim’s bravery for coming forward.
