WOMAN FALSELY ACCUSED EX-PARTNER OF SERIOUS ASSAULT
A woman who initially claimed that her former partner had brutalised her was found to have inflicted her own injuries instead.Fleur Smith, aged 21, reported to authorities on 22 February of the previous year that her ex-partner assaulted her on 15 January on a footpath between Desborough Road and Mayfield Road in Huntingdon.
Smith, who had not maintained contact with the alleged victim since 2021, described injuries including facial wounds, a broken collarbone, bruised ribs, and a suspected fractured cheekbone.
However, medical examinations did not confirm these injuries.
The man was taken into custody on 5 March and denied the allegations, stating he was at his home in St Neots with his current partner during the supposed incident and had no communication with Smith since 2021.
Further investigation revealed that Smith had given inconsistent accounts to family, friends, and hospital staff at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
It emerged that her fabrications began months earlier, with claims that the victim had been imprisoned for raping her and was scheduled for release coinciding with her report of the assault.
Additionally, she presented a counterfeit letter, allegedly from a domestic abuse support organization, containing false details about the victim.
Contradictory findings from authorities led to her arrest on 8 May of the previous year.
On Monday (30 June), Fleur Smith, of Desborough Road in Huntingdon, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court and received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after admitting to charges of perverting the course of justice.
She was also ordered to undertake a 20-day rehabilitation activity and complete 175 hours of unpaid community work.
