HUNTINGDON STALKER ANTHONY GLADWIN JAILED FOR THREATENING TO RAPE VICTIM
A stalker who became "fixated" on his victim, threatening to rape her, has been jailed.Andrew Gladwin, aged 53, had met his victim several years ago and bonded through a shared interest in running.
They went on a few runs together, but the victim eventually stopped running with him due to feeling uncomfortable.
Over the following years, she received sporadic inappropriate texts from Gladwin, who described her as his "wife for life" — despite never being in a relationship with her.
In October 2024, Gladwin unexpectedly sent the victim a barrage of sexually violent messages from a fake Facebook account, totaling over a hundred messages within a few weeks.
He claimed he "owned" her and liked to drive past her house in the mornings, also insisting that "breaks from him are not allowed" and repeatedly threatening to rape her at her home, saying she "completely belonged to him." The victim, frightened and suspicious it was Gladwin, contacted police after feeling she was being followed.
Gladwin was arrested on November 5, and devices seized confirmed his involvement with the messages.
During a hearing in April, Gladwin admitted to stalking, involving fear of violence, and sending threatening communications.
On July 17, at Cambridge Crown Court, he was sentenced to two years and four months in prison and received a ten-year restraining order.
Det Sgt Simon Boast, who led the investigation, commented on Gladwin's fixation and pattern of escalating, graphic sexual and violent threats, highlighting the immediate police intervention.
The officer stressed that no one should endure such distress, emphasizing the seriousness of stalking offenses and welcoming the custodial sentence.
