DUNFERMLINE MAN IAIN MACLEOD SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS FOR BRUTAL VALENTINE'S DAY ASSAULT
A 20-year-old man from Dunfermline, Iain Macleod, has been sentenced to six months in jail after he carried out a prolonged and violent attack on his former partner on Valentine's Day.
During the assault, Macleod twice grasped her neck and applied pressure.
He appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted to assaulting his partner by repeatedly pushing her, causing her to fall onto a bed and sofa, before grabbing her by the throat and squeezing.
The attack also involved multiple punches to her head and body, leading to injuries such as bleeding inside her ear, bruising, swelling, chipped teeth, scratches, and additional bruises.
The court heard that the assault was ongoing, with Macleod leaving the house briefly before returning intoxicated, which was described as an aggravating factor.
The sheriff stressed the importance of treating domestic violence with severity, regardless of the victim’s continued support.
Macleod's solicitor explained that he was in a vulnerable state at the time and had little memory of the incident due to alcohol consumption, which he had started after several months of sobriety.
Ultimately, the sheriff ruled that only a custodial sentence was appropriate given the seriousness of the assault.
