GIDEON STEWART SENTENCED IN DUNFERMLINE FOR ANIMAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE
Gideon Stewart, born on 23 July 1997 and most recently residing on Halkett Crescent in Dunfermline KY11 4PH, was convicted in 2022 for a violent incident involving a nine-week-old kitten. The court heard that Stewart, known for previous alcohol-related violence, became abusive during a house party on Bute Crescent, Dunfermline.
He spat in his partner’s face and called her a “slag” when she asked him to stop his unruly behavior.
Stewart appeared in court to admit to his assault on December 14, 2020.
Sheriff Charles Macnair commented, “You were lucky not to have killed the defenceless animal during that violent outburst.” Prosecutor Laura McManus stated that Stewart was at his girlfriend’s home drinking with friends when he began to act aggressively as he became increasingly intoxicated.
Around 2 am, he directed sexually explicit and abusive comments toward the group.
When his girlfriend requested him to cease, he spat in her face and verbally insulted her.
Ms McManus explained, “The accused stated: ‘I’m going to smash all of you.
You are all getting it.’” She detailed that Stewart punched a wall, then went into the hallway, where he picked up the nine-week-old kitten belonging to his partner, dropped it on his foot, and then kicked it.
Witnesses described him as “drop-kicking the kitten.” Following this, Stewart punched a hole in a wall, threatened to throw his girlfriend through a window, and called her “nothing.” Police officers arrived to find him hiding in bed.
When detained and taken to Dunfermline police station, Stewart spat on an officer’s arm during cuff removal.
He pleaded guilty to charges including kicking the kitten causing unnecessary suffering, assaulting his partner, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, and assaulting an officer.
Defence lawyer Brian Black expressed that Stewart was “ashamed” and acknowledged issues with alcohol and anger management.
Sheriff Macnair remarked, “You kicked a defenseless animal, and it was fortunate that the animal appears to have survived.” In sentencing, Stewart was sentenced to 405 days in jail, with the period backdated to January 27, 2022, when he was first remanded in custody.
He was also ordered to serve a supervised release of 200 days and was issued an 18-month non-harassment order preventing him from contacting the complainant.
