DUNFERMLINE MAN ABANDONS SIX-YEAR-OLD AT SWIMMING POOL, THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE SCHOOL DROP-OFF
A six-year-old girl was left abandoned at a swimming pool for two hours by Faisal Arshad, from Dunfermline, who thought doing so was akin to leaving her at school. The court heard it was the child’s first time swimming.
Arshad, 36, went to an appointment with his doctor and eventually returned to the Carnegie Centre.
He admitted guilt in a letter sent to Dunfermline Sheriff Court, stating he caused the girl to be abandoned in a manner likely to cause her unnecessary suffering.
When he attended court for sentencing, his solicitor explained he thought it was okay to leave her because someone was watching her, which was a miscommunication.
The court was told she was left in the water, trying to keep warm and watched over by a lifeguard, from 11 am until police arrived at 1 pm.
Sheriff Krista Johnston admonished Arshad, calling his actions stupid and thoughtless, but chose not to impose a harsher punishment.
