HAWICK MONSTER DAVID PORT WAS FOUND GUILTY OF RAPING 5 CHILDREN AND CAGED FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS
2018: A man from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, convicted of multiple sexual offences against minors, is set to be released from prison on 29 January 2019 after serving part of his sentence.David James Port, born in 1999, was sentenced at Glasgow High Court on 30 June 2017 to three years and two months imprisonment.
His conviction relates to sexual assaults and the rape of five girls, all of them minors at the time of the offences.
Port was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely following the conviction.
Reports suggest his family attempted to conceal the seriousness of his actions to protect him, despite the devastating impact on the victims.
Concerns have also been raised that he was previously warned at the age of 12 for sending indecent images of himself to primary school children.
Victims and their families have expressed anger at the justice system, saying that early release for completing a programme does not reflect the lifelong impact of the crimes.
Campaigners stress that the victims will live with the consequences for the rest of their lives while Port will soon walk free.
The automatic release date has now been confirmed as 29 January 2019.
Local communities have been urged to remain vigilant following his release.
