MAN JAILED FOR STRATFORD-UPON-AVON BREAK-IN RAPE
A man who confessed to raping a woman during a burglary has received a prison sentence.Daniel McGrath, aged 34, broke into a residence in Stratford-upon-Avon on 7 July, during which he stole money and assaulted the female occupant.
He had previously admitted to charges of rape, sexual assault, and robbery at an earlier court hearing.
The judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison, with the possibility of an additional four years on parole.
Furthermore, he will be registered as a sex offender for life.
The victim issued a statement expressing her sense of relief following the sentencing, stating she was "relieved" and hopeful that prison will provide McGrath with the help needed to alter his behavior.
She also described the process of cooperating with police as challenging but ultimately rewarding, as McGrath was apprehended within a week after a nationwide search, and he later pleaded guilty.
Warwickshire Police's Detective Inspector Liam Barry characterized the assault as a "horrific incident," where an innocent woman endured a "violent and frightening attack in her own home."
