IRAQI MAN CHARGED WITH SERIOUS SEXUAL OFFENCES IN STRATFORD-UPON-AVON
An Iraqi man has been charged with a string of sex offences following an incident in a shop at a Midland tourist spot.Police were alerted to an incident at a shop in Chapel Street in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday, January 31.
A woman is alleged to have been raped, suffered an attempted rape, a sexual assault and suffered ‘intentional strangulation’ in the incident, which is said to have taken place between 1pm and 2pm.
Jowad Haji was arrested by officers on Saturday (February 14) after the alleged sex attacks.
The incidents were reported to police two days earlier on February 12.
And now police have charged the 24-year-old, of Park Street, Coventry.
He is set to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on Monday (February 16) morning.
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “An Iraqi national has been charged with rape and several other sexual offences.
“Jowad Haji was arrested by officers on Saturday afternoon (February 14) and last night (Sunday) was charged with: Rape of a woman 16 years of age or over; Attempted rape of a woman 16 or over; Sexual assault on a female and; Intentional strangulation.” The 24-year-old, of Park Street, Coventry, was remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday).
“It follows an incident at a shop on Chapel Street in Stratford on 31 January that was reported to us on 12 February.”
