A man who violated a restraining order by sending over 70 messages to his former wife has been sentenced to prison.

Paul Claricoates received the order in April, which prohibited him from making any contact with his ex-partner through in-person interaction, phone calls, or social media platforms, following the end of their marriage.

He was subsequently arrested for breaching the order but persisted in contacting her through calls and texts.

On the day after the restraining order was issued, the 48-year-old posted messages on his public Facebook profile directed at his ex-wife.

Over the course of the next three weeks, he uploaded more than 70 similar messages.

During a court hearing last week, Claricoates, who is from the Bishopton area of Stratford and is 48 years old, admitted to violating the restraining order twice.

He was sentenced to jail, and a new restraining order was imposed on him for ten years.

Detective Constable Elyse Robinson of Warwickshire Police emphasized the purpose of restraining orders, stating, “Restraining orders are implemented to safeguard victims of crime.

Claricoates blatantly ignored this directive and disrespected the court by persistently harassing his former partner.”
