A MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO PRISON AFTER CAUSING HIS GIRLFRIEND SUCH DISTRESS THAT SHE FELL OUT OF A FIRST-FLOOR WINDOW DURING HER ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE.

A man involved in a violent incident that resulted in a woman falling through a first-floor window and suffering a fractured spine has been sentenced to 28 months in prison.

Curtis Peachment, aged 28 and residing in Bowen Square, Daventry, received his prison term on Monday, July 14, after being convicted of false imprisonment and pleading guilty to harassment at Northampton Crown Court last month.

The incident occurred when his former partner fell from the bathroom window of his home in Daventry, a significant height, as she attempted to escape.

The court was informed that Peachment was preparing to go out in February 2019 when he took issue with what his partner was wearing.

Jurors heard that he made her feel so uncomfortable that their plans to visit a local bar were abandoned.

They had arrived at his house shortly after midnight, and Peachment immediately began criticizing her clothing again.

According to the court, as she prepared to leave, she put on her shoes, but Peachment reacted violently by pulling them off and tossing them across the room, forbidding her from leaving.

He then physically assaulted her, pushing and hitting her, until she managed to persuade him to let her go to the bathroom.

When she locked the door, he became enraged and tried to break in, which caused her to climb out of the window onto the ground below.

As a consequence of the fall and his assault, she sustained a fractured vertebra, a head wound, facial bruising, and a swollen lip.

Despite her pleas for him not to hurt her, Peachment lifted her and took her back inside before locking the door.

Emergency services arrived shortly afterward.

During today’s hearing, Judge Rupert Mayo described Peachment as arrogant, stating he believed any misfortunes were others' fault.

The judge noted that Peachment had told the probation service he preferred prison over taking responsibility for his actions.

The judge told the court, "You had no remorse for the impact you had on the victim.

You said that she was not the victim - that you were the victim." As the sentence was announced, Peachment was heard shouting “I am innocent” before being led away from the courtroom.
