SIMON TURAY
The incidents involved him sexually assaulting a woman after holding her against her will and harassing another woman.
On May 25 last year, Northamptonshire Police were approached by a woman who reported that four days earlier, she had been approached in Northampton by a man she knew.
He then took her to a cellar on Queens Road, where he stripped her and committed oral rape.
She also stated that he had robbed her of cash in April.
An investigation by the Force’s dedicated rape unit, SOLAR, led to the identification of 47, as the suspect.
He was detained on May 26 at a former partner’s home, despite being subject to a restraining order issued in June 2023 that barred contact.
Turay faced multiple charges, including rape, kidnapping, and robbery related to the first woman, as well as harassment and common assault against the second woman.
During the legal process, he breached the restraining order on October 9, 2024, by contacting the second woman and attempting to influence her court testimony.
This breach resulted in additional charges of harassment and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Although Turay, who has no fixed address, admitted to harassment, assault, and perverting justice, he contested charges of rape, kidnap, and robbery.
At Northampton Crown Court on May 21, Turay was convicted of all three serious offences.
Subsequently, on July 31, he was sentenced to an overall period of 15 years in prison.
The sentence included 11 years of incarceration and an extra four years on licence, reserved for dangerous offenders.
He received concurrent terms for kidnapping (one year), robbery (30 months), and perverting justice (30 months).
A charge related to false statements, which he denied, was dismissed.
Furthermore, Turay was issued an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the rape survivor and entry into Northampton town centre, alongside a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent future crimes.
He is also required to disclose any future relationship to police, allowing for ongoing monitoring.
Detective Constable Harriet Stevenson from SOLAR commented: “Turay has a history of violence against women, and the trauma he inflicted was severe.
His actions, including the predatory assault on the survivor, were threatening and entitled.
I am glad he received a sentence that reflects the danger he poses.” She added her appreciation for the survivor’s bravery in reporting the crimes and expressed her hope that the sentence offers some solace during her healing process.
