PRISON SENTENCE FOR DAVENTRY DOMESTIC ABUSER
A man who subjected his former partner to repeated assaults, including strangulation, has received a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to multiple offences.Northamptonshire Police were alerted on 8 August 2023, following a 999 call from a woman in Daventry who reported being attacked by her ex-partner.
She told officers that he had grabbed her by the throat, restricting her ability to breathe.
The perpetrator was identified as 46-year-old Stuart Buckley.
He was subsequently charged with intentional strangulation and two counts of assault by beating.
While on bail under conditions prohibiting contact with the victim, Buckley was again accused of assaulting the same woman during an incident on 29 September 2023.
An additional assault charge followed for an earlier offence on 26 June 2023.
He was also charged with stalking involving fear of violence, relating to a pattern of behaviour that took place throughout the summer of 2024.
At Northampton Crown Court on 11 August, as his trial was due to begin, Buckley admitted to the intentional strangulation and the assaults on 8 August 2023 and 26 June 2024.
The court ordered that further charges—two additional assaults and the stalking offence—should lie on file, as Buckley denied them.
For the strangulation offence, Buckley was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment.
The assault charges resulted in concurrent one-month sentences.
A restraining order lasting 12 years was also imposed, forbidding any form of contact with the victim, including via social media.
He was additionally ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.
Buckley resides on Wordsworth Road in Daventry.
Following the sentencing, PC Mollie Diggin from Daventry Response praised the victim’s courage: “Stuart Buckley used his bullying and manipulative behaviour to torment his victim over a prolonged period, and he thought he would get away with it.
“The survivor in this case has shown such resilience, I’m so proud of her.
I also want to thank her, firstly for putting her trust in Northamptonshire Police, and secondly for her bravery and courage in supporting a lengthy police investigation and in attending court.
“Her commitment has ensured that Buckley has faced consequences for his abusive actions.
I hope his prison sentence and the lengthy restraining order offer her some justice and sense of peace as she continues to heal.
“She deserves a future filled with happiness, free of the fear of Buckley’s temper and violence.
“It is not love to hit, threaten and terrify someone, it is abuse, and if you have a Stuart Buckley in your life, please know that we can help you.
“Northamptonshire Police will take every opportunity to ensure those who commit domestic abuse are brought to justice.”
