EX-CONVICT JAILED FOR SEX ATTACK ON SLEEPING WOMAN IN ROSYTH
A man named Colin Bell, aged 42, was convicted of a serious sexual offence after he preyed on a woman at her residence in Rosyth during 2023.The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Bell launched a sex attack on a sleeping woman while she was incapable of giving consent, and he was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison.
The judge, Lady Ross, emphasized the psychological harm caused to the victim, citing her fear, anxiety, and loss of safety as direct consequences of Bell's actions.
Lady Ross read a victim impact statement, describing the damage and noting Bell's denial of guilt and lack of remorse.
Bell, who was a first-time offender with no prior police record, had earlier denied assaulting and raping the woman on February 4 or 5, 2023, but was found guilty after a trial.
As part of his sentence, Bell was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely, and a non-harassment order was issued to prevent him from contacting the victim.
Despite the serious nature of his crime and the damage caused, the judge explained that Bell would need to face the reality of his actions and drew attention to the support available to him in custody.
Bell was formerly a resident of Fleming Crescent, Blairhall.
