CHRISTOPHER WOODS FROM CAMBRIDGESHIRE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN SAWTRY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sawtry and the wider Cambridgeshire area, Christopher Woods, aged 39, has been sentenced to prison following his involvement in a serious sexual assault incident.The events unfolded in the early hours of 23 April last year, when Woods was caught on CCTV attempting to gain entry into a residential property in Sawtry.
Witness footage showed him trying various door handles before successfully entering the back garden of the victim's home, all while carrying a pint glass.
Once inside the garden, Woods managed to breach the threshold of the house itself.
The young girl, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by the intrusion.
She decided to go downstairs, where she encountered Woods.
According to reports, Woods engaged her in conversation before committing the assault.
The details of the assault are deeply troubling, and the incident has left the local community shaken.
Footage from a video doorbell installed at the property captured Woods entering the garden and subsequently leaving approximately 40 minutes later.
The following day, the girl confided in her mother about the incident, prompting her to contact law enforcement authorities immediately.
Police officers responded swiftly to the report and conducted a thorough investigation.
During their search, they recovered the pint glass Woods had been carrying, which forensic analysis later confirmed contained his fingerprints.
Woods, who resides at Garner Court in Huntingdon, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
During the legal proceedings, he denied the charges, which included assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by touching her, as well as breaching an existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Despite his denials, the evidence presented at trial was compelling.
Following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court last month, Woods was found guilty on both counts.
The court's judgment was delivered yesterday, 11 December, when Woods was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.
