NELSON MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR GIRLFRIEND'S MURDER
Carl Field, aged 34 and residing on St Philips Street in Nelson, was found guilty of killing his girlfriend Debra Walsh, who was also 34.Debra's body was discovered at her home on Norfolk Street in Nelson on March 21, with authorities estimating that she had been deceased for several weeks.
An autopsy determined that her death was caused by injuries to her neck.
The case was heard at Preston Crown Court, where Field was sentenced to a minimum of 19 years in prison for the murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Howarth commented: "I am satisfied with the verdict reached today.
This case involves a devastating crime that has torn a young boy from his mother and caused profound grief for the family.
Debra sustained severe injuries inflicted by Field, which led to her death; her final moments must have been unimaginable, and Field deserves a lengthy imprisonment." The family of Debra Walsh issued a statement expressing their sorrow, saying: "Debra was taken from us in the most brutal manner imaginable, and we will never recover from this loss.
While we find some solace in today’s guilty verdict and the sentence of at least 19 years, it does not change that Debra is gone forever."
