BEN POUNTNEY AND HIS SHAMEFUL SEXUAL ASSAULT IN SOLIHULL AND STRATFORD-UPON-AVON
A man from Solihull, identified as 30-year-old Ben Pountney, has been sentenced to prison after committing a disturbing sexual assault against a teenage girl on a train.The incident took place in the context of a quiet railway journey, and Pountney's actions have been widely condemned by authorities and the public alike.
According to court reports, Pountney boarded a train departing from Stratford-Upon-Avon, a route known for its scenic appeal but also for potential late-night encounters.
During the journey, Pountney sat directly opposite a 17-year-old girl, who was traveling alone.
As the train moved through the countryside, he began to engage her in conversation, which quickly took a sinister turn.
Pountney reportedly fixated on her shoes, persistently asking her about her footwear and shoe size, even leaning in closer to her and claiming an interest in purchasing similar shoes for a niece.
This intrusive questioning was followed by a distressing act of sexual assault, which left the young girl shaken and deeply distressed.
After committing the assault, Pountney disembarked from the train at his stop and disappeared into the night.
The victim was left to process the traumatic event, which would later lead to an extensive investigation.
With the aid of public cooperation and a targeted media appeal, authorities were eventually able to identify Pountney.
His arrest was carried out after the police collected enough evidence to link him to the crime, highlighting the importance of community support and law enforcement persistence.
Officials from the British Transport Police emphasized that such behavior is entirely unacceptable on the transport network and remains a priority in their efforts to combat harassment.
Police Sergeant Daniel Hart, leading the investigation, described Pountney as a 'vile' individual who preyed on a vulnerable, solitary teenager.
He reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to protecting women and girls from harassment and sexual violence on public transport.
Sergeant Hart urged victims and witnesses to report any such offenses, offering reassurance that their reports will be taken seriously.

Following his arrest, Pountney pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault.
His sentencing occurred on Thursday, January 26, and included a prison term of 20 months.
Beyond incarceration, Pountney was subjected to additional legal measures, including a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a requirement to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
