SOLIHULL RAPIST HANDED LIFE SENTENCE FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND GUN THREAT
A TURK who raped a woman outside Solihull's Touchwood Centre, leaving her naked and shaking with fear, has been jailed for life.Hasim Cetinkaya, aged 21, may be eligible for parole after eight years, although he is likely to be immediately deported upon his release.
During the court proceedings at Warwick Crown Court, Judge James Pyke described Cetinkaya as a dangerous offender who posed a "significant risk".
He ordered him to register as a sex offender for life, stating: "You threatened to kill her with a gun.
You left with her clothes, leaving her naked and shaking with fear.
You subjected her to an extreme degree of degradation." Cetinkaya had denied two charges of raping the woman but changed his pleas to guilty on the day he was due to stand trial.
The incident occurred in March last year when the 46-year-old woman was out for a meal and then at the Opal Lounge in Solihull High Street.
After initially engaging in consensual kissing and walking towards the Touchwood Centre, Cetinkaya persuaded her to go to a car park.
When she refused, he threatened her with a gun, pushed her against a wall, ordered her to strip, and then attacked her.
He left with all her clothes and discarded them nearby.
The terrified victim, left naked and trembling, entered the Touchwood Centre where she was found by security, who called police.
Cetinkaya, who had no previous convictions, was arrested at his sister's home in Chelmsley Wood in July, claiming that the assault was consensual.
Detective Inspector Iain Grant of Solihull CID commented: "It is a significant development and should act as a warning to any individual who may come to the town centre and exploit vulnerable individuals.
The sentence is commensurate."
