SOLIHULL MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTING TO GROOM 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A man named Alastair Reed, aged 23 from Knowle Wood Road, Solihull, has been sentenced to prison after attempting to groom a girl he believed was 13 years old.Reed was caught in Chester and brought before the court on Monday.
It was revealed during the case that Reed, under the alias "Tom9," initially contacted a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl called "Crazy Maisie" on the social media site MyLOL on January 10 last year.
Prosecutor Sarah Badrawy explained that Reed falsely claimed to be 17, although he was actually 21 at the time of contact.
In their conversations, Reed urged her to perform a sexual act and claimed he could "teach her stuff," and he requested naked images, which she refused.
The following day, a similar exchange took place, with Reed pretending to perform a sex act himself and asking for images of "Maisie" in her underwear, which was again refused.
Reed was detained on April 2 of the previous year and initially minimally cooperative, giving no comments during police interrogation.
He later admitted to attempting to entice a child under 16 into sexual activity on two counts and pleaded guilty.
Sentencing originally considered a range of four to ten years, starting at five, but ultimately the court sentenced Reed to two years in prison, reflecting his guilty plea.
A 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also imposed, along with a requirement to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
The judge emphasized the importance of protecting minors, noting that Reed’s actions involved contacting a police decoy posing as a child online, illustrating the frequency of online offences targeting children.
Reed expressed remorse, claimed to love his family and partner, and was pursuing a master’s degree in engineering.
His case experienced delays due to procedural complications, and his conduct was deemed isolated.
The court also recognized his efforts to seek support and his cooperative behavior during the proceedings.
