SOLIHULL MAN SENTENCED AFTER THREATENING EX WITH PHOTO OF HIS BROTHER IN COFFIN
A man named Barry Grant, aged 40, from Solihull, was involved in a disturbing incident where he sent a threatening and abusive message to his late brother's ex partner.
The message included a picture of his brother lying in his coffin on the day of his funeral, accompanied by threats such as 'he would see her soon.' Grant had previously appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court for pleading guilty to malicious communication on July 16.
It was revealed that the victim had been in a relationship with Grant's brother, who tragically committed suicide after their split.
On November 17, 2023, Grant sent an expletive-filled message and an image of his brother's coffin, stating: 'On my little brother's life, I will be seeing you soon you little rat.' During the court hearing, prosecutor Nabiha Ahmed highlighted that Grant had expressed intentions to harm the ex partner, saying he would 'see her soon.' Grant, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, believed that his brother's former partner had unfairly treated him, which he described as 'a very sad background' to the case.
His defense lawyer noted that Grant does not wish to contact the victim anymore.
He was sentenced to a 14-week prison sentence suspended for a year, a 12-month community order, and fined £85.
