TRANSGENDER WOMAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ASSAULT ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
A transgender woman named April Welsh, aged 34, was involved in a severe assault against her former partner, Claire Roberts-Lloyd.
The attack took place at their shared residence after Welsh was asked to leave a pub.
During the incident, Welsh seized Claire’s arm and forcefully pushed her into walls and furniture.
As Claire crouched defensively on the floor, Welsh kicked her in the face with her bare foot.
The altercation was triggered after Welsh, who had previously disclosed her transgender identity and was experiencing health complications related to hormone therapy, became aggressive when Claire took her mobile phone inside a pub.
At the time, Welsh was also serving a community order due to a previous drink-driving conviction.
Welsh pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm through assault.
Court evidence showed bruises on various parts of Claire's body, including her leg, back, shoulder, and breast.
Cardiff Crown Court handed Welsh a sentence of four months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and mandated her to complete a 15-day rehabilitative course.
A five-year restraining order was also issued, banning Welsh from contacting Claire Roberts-Lloyd.
Furthermore, Welsh was ordered to pay court costs of £420 and a surcharge of £120.
