ANDREW TAYLOR FROM HAWICK INVOLVED IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN BORDERS

An investigation has been launched into a serious case involving Andrew Taylor, a 36-year-old resident of Hawick, who was found to possess a disturbing collection of indecent images and videos depicting children. The authorities uncovered more than 3,000 images and 22 videos, some featuring children as young as six years old, during a search that took place between October 2019 and April of the following year.

The case came to light after concerns were raised by a former partner of Taylor, prompting authorities to scrutinize his electronic devices. Depute fiscal Fiona Hamilton informed Jedburgh Sheriff Court that these concerns led to a detailed examination of Taylor’s electronic equipment, which revealed the disturbing content.

Among the material found, over 100 images and nine videos were classified as the most serious Category A, indicating the highest level of severity and concern. The discovery was particularly alarming given the nature of the content and the age of the children involved.

Initially, Taylor denied any knowledge of the offending material, claiming he was unaware of its presence. However, investigators found the incriminating images and videos stored on both a mobile phone and a laptop belonging to him, contradicting his initial denial.

As the case proceeds, Taylor’s sentencing has been postponed until March 13, allowing time for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and an assessment for a Restriction of Liberty Order. Additionally, Taylor has been placed under the notification requirements mandated by the Sexual Offences Act, which involves registration and monitoring due to the nature of the charges.
