SCOTTISH DOMESTIC ABUSER LANDS TOP JAIL GUARD JOB IN US DESPITE CONVICTIONS
A man named Andrew Parr, from Hawick, Roxburghshire, has been found working in the United States as a jail guard despite having two domestic abuse convictions in Scotland.Parr, 36 years old, managed to secure a position with the Bremer County Sheriff’s Department in Iowa, earning $30,000 annually, in April.
His criminal record includes a domestic abuse incident in 2013, where he assaulted his pregnant wife by throwing a shoe at her and pouring beer over her, and a second conviction in 2017 for threatening behavior towards a partner.
Despite these convictions, he was appointed as a deputy sheriff.
His former partner expressed her shock that he managed to get such a role, stating: “It is astounding he has managed to get a job with a sheriff’s department with his history.” Parr supposedly married a US citizen, which allowed him to work in the country with a green card.
Parr also claimed to have military service, showing fake photos of him being shot at in Iraq to gain her trust, but these were found to be images available on Google.
His former partner also revealed that he had fled to the US to be with another woman while owing her thousands of pounds and that he had told her he was working in Amsterdam until August last year, before actually being in America.
Bremer County Sheriff Dan Pickett has been notified of Parr’s past criminal behavior, but he continues in his role, raising questions about the vetting process.
Parr’s criminal history and the circumstances of his employment in the US have caused concern among some community members and advocates for victims of domestic violence.
