ALAN READ FROM SOLIHULL SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS FOR HISTORICAL SEX OFFENCES

In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention in the West Midlands, Alan Read, a 62-year-old resident of Colesbourne Road in Solihull, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 22 years.

The conviction stems from a series of serious historical sexual offences committed over a span of more than a decade.

Read was brought before Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, 28 September, where he faced the consequences of his actions.

The court found him guilty of 15 separate charges, which included counts of rape, attempted rape, and indecent assault.

These offences were committed between the years 1987 and 2000, during which his three victims—comprising two boys and one girl—were all minors, with ages ranging from as young as three to as old as 14.

Throughout the trial, Read maintained his innocence, asserting that he was not responsible for the crimes he was accused of.

Despite his protests, the jury deliberated for only eight hours before reaching a unanimous verdict of guilt on all counts.

The judge subsequently sentenced him to 22 years in prison on the same day, emphasizing the severity of the crimes and the need for justice.

In addition to his prison sentence, Read will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure that underscores the ongoing risk he poses to the community.

The case has highlighted the importance of addressing historical abuse allegations and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable, regardless of the time elapsed since the offences occurred.
