AFGHAN ASYLUM SEEKER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER LONDON ASSAULTS
Abdul Barkeeh Salihi, a 24-year-old Afghan seeking asylum, sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl during a family outing in London and received a fine rather than prison time.
He admitted to two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal damage committed on January 28, 2025.
The judge at Inner London Crown Court imposed a £400 fine, a £160 victim surcharge, and ordered him to be listed on the sex offenders' register for five years.
Salihi, who has no permanent address but listed an Oxford hotel as his residence, was involved in an assault on a woman on Lombard Street and the sexual assault of a teenage girl at Leadenhall Market.
Following the incident, his family confronted him at a restaurant, where he responded by throwing a metal chair through a window, after which he was restrained by bystanders until police arrived.
He was also wanted in connection with the earlier assault.
Detective Constable Natalie Schofield described the crimes as "deeply distressing" and commended the victims' courage in helping to bring him to justice.
