FARTOWN MAN ZULQUARNIAN DOGAR JAILED AFTER PARTNER’S FACE SLASHED IN ATTACK

A MAN who slashed his former girlfriend’s face in an horrific attack has been jailed.

Zulquarnian Dogar had been out of prison only few months after serving asentence for a previous knife attack, when he injured 31-year-old Alison Newell during a violent confrontation at her home.

He has now been jailed for five and a half years.

Dogar, of Central Avenue, Fartown, Huddersfield, was said to have been in a volatile on-off four-year relationship with Miss Newell.

It was following his release from prison that he persuaded her to go to a friend’s house party last September.

Prosecutor Andrew Kershaw, told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that Dogar was plainly drunk and after an argument Miss Newell went home without telling him.

Dogar later turned up at her home in the early hours and his efforts to get into the property woke up neighbours.

Mr Kershaw said Dogar struck a hard blow to the left side of Miss Newell’s face with a knife or blade concealed in his hand.

It caused a deep two-inch long slash, which cut through to the underlying muscle.

Miss Newell screamed for help and when a neighbour assisted her Dogar sat nearby saying: “It’s just a domestic mate.

It’s OK.” Dogar ran off when police arrived on the scene but he was arrested after a short chase.

Mr Kershaw said Miss Newell had been left with a depressed scar which was red without make-up.

He said she also suffered from numbness around her nose and mouth, but feeling was returning to her lips.

Mr Kershaw said the complainant was planning to move away so that Dogar would not be able to find her when he was released from custody again.

Dogar was given a two-year jail sentence in October 2011 for a knife attack on a man in a Huddersfield taxi office, but served less than half.

He pleaded guilty to wounding Miss Newell with intent to do her grievous bodily harm.

In addition to jailing him for five-and-a-half years Judge Peter Benson also imposed an indefinite restraining order, which bans the defendant from having any direct or indirect contact with his ex-girlfriend.

The judge said Dogar had a troubling record of offences and he appeared to be someone who habitually carried a knife.

Judge Benson said it was a very disturbing picture and Dogar had used such a weapon on two occasions to cause gratuitous injury.

He said Dogar had caused Miss Newell immediate pain and bloodshed in the attack.

“She was bleeding heavily and you stayed where you were, taking no steps to help her,” noted the judge.

“When a neighbour intervened you described it as a domestic which I think says a lot about your attitude.”
