A convicted sex offender from Kirklees has been incarcerated shortly after his arrest, which was made possible by specialized child protection officers.Ryan Walsh, aged 39 and residing on Meltham Road in Huddersfield, received a three-year prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court on 19 February, after admitting to charges that included communicating sexually with a minor and violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The 39-year-old was visited by officers from the Kirklees Public Protection Unit on 20 January during routine monitoring activities related to his status as a registered sex offender.
During a search of his electronic devices, evidence of criminal activity was discovered, leading to his immediate arrest.
He was formally charged and appeared in court the following day.
At his court hearing yesterday, Walsh pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a 13-year-old girl, as well as two counts of producing indecent images of a child.
He also admitted to breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and failing to comply with the requirements of the sex offenders register.
PC Richard Thorp of the Kirklees Police Public Protection Unit expressed that the conviction is a positive outcome, emphasizing that online offenses and breaches of protective orders will result in legal penalties.
He highlighted the dedication of their team in safeguarding vulnerable individuals from harm.
Furthermore, DI Angela Francome noted that Walsh’s quick sentencing, achieved within about a month of his initial arrest, showcases the efficiency of multi-agency efforts in monitoring registered sex offenders and responding promptly if offenses take place.
She encouraged the public to share any relevant information regarding sexual offenses within Kirklees or across the wider West Yorkshire area with police authorities.
The coordinated efforts of the public protection team continue to be essential in ensuring community safety and enforcing the law against offenders like Walsh.
