YASIR BUTT SHAMES GLENROTHES WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE AND EXTORTION CRIMES
Yasir Butt, a 37-year-old delivery driver from Glenrothes, has been subjected to a court order prohibiting him from approaching his wife for a period of two years. This legal restriction follows a series of serious offenses committed over an 18-month span from 2017 to 2019, during which Butt engaged in aggressive and threatening behavior towards his spouse.Among the offenses he pleaded guilty to were acts of physical assault, including seizing and biting his wife, which caused her considerable distress. The court also found that Butt had violated the provisions of the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act 2018 on multiple occasions, both at his residence in Glenrothes and during a trip to Alton Towers in Staffordshire. At the theme park, Butt's conduct was notably aggressive; he shouted, swore, used offensive language, and issued threats against his wife. He also threatened to make false allegations to the police about her and to take their children abroad, with the intention of never returning.
In light of these offenses, Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court issued a two-year supervision order last week, mandating Butt to attend the Caledonian project, a program designed for domestic abusers. Additionally, a non-harassment order was put in place for the same duration, preventing him from contacting or approaching his wife.
It is important to note that Butt's criminal record includes a prior conviction from the previous year, when he was jailed for attempting to extort £25,000 from his mistress. This extortion involved threatening to expose her private sex tape to her family unless she paid him. The court heard that in April 2020, during the early stages of their relationship, the couple had agreed to record themselves engaging in sexual activity, with the understanding that the footage would be deleted afterward. However, a month later, Butt demanded £10,000 from the woman and threatened to show her family the video if she did not comply. His demands later increased to £25,000. When the woman contacted police, no payment was made, and authorities discovered consensual intimate photographs of her on Butt’s phone.
Furthermore, the court noted that Butt had breached bail conditions by repeatedly visiting his wife’s residence and leaving voicemails for her, despite being ordered to stay away. For these actions, he received a concurrent 16-month jail sentence for the extortion attempt, which was served alongside his domestic abuse sentence. The court emphasized the gravity of his conduct and ordered him to participate in a domestic violence behavioral program to address his behavior.
