GLENROTHES MAN JAILED FOR SEX ATTACK AND PLACED ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER
A 59-year-old man from Glenrothes, who carried out a shocking sexual assault, has been placed on the sex offenders register for one year.According to Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Rashpal Mehmi lost his job following his attack on December 13 of the previous year.
He appeared before the court for sentencing after being found guilty by a sheriff following a trial.
The court heard that during a trip to his home street, Taylor Drive, and on the street itself, he sexually assaulted a woman by grabbing her breast, making multiple attempts to kiss her, and, when being removed from a vehicle, tried to kiss her again.
Defense attorney Gino Gambale acknowledged that the incident was a very unpleasant experience for the complainant and suggested it was triggered after a substantial amount of alcohol was consumed.
The lawyer added that Mehmi, a first-time offender, has no memory of the incident and feels “incredibly ashamed” of his actions, which led to the loss of his job and financial hardship.
Sheriff Steven Borthwick emphasized that alcohol consumption is not an excuse.
“Your conduct was outrageous, criminal, and highly distressing to (the woman),” he stated.
Mehmi was sentenced to a community payback order, including 12 months of offender supervision, and was instructed to inform his supervising officer if he secures new employment.
