FIFE BARBER HANDED COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER PROLONGED DOMESTIC ABUSE
A Fife-based barber, Mustafa Aker, aged 36 from Glenrothes, received a community payback order after admitting to a pattern of domestic abuse that lasted nearly 16 months.Aker appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to behaviors including offensive remarks, spitting at his partner, physical assault, and choking her.
During the offence period from May 2024 to the previous year, he assaulted her at their home, pinning her on a sofa and hitting her repeatedly, including seizing her by the throat, which caused injury.
Prosecutor Sarah Smith outlined that Aker, heavily intoxicated at the time, assaulted the woman by forcefully hitting her in the head and causing bruising on her face and ear, which led her to stay indoors due to swelling and pain.
On a separate occasion, after drinking, he argued with her and told her she did not deserve him, then pinned her to a sofa and struck her in the face, making her dizzy.
He also grabbed her by the neck with one hand, causing her to feel breathless and sore-jawed, before she managed to break free and escape into the garden.
Aker later left the house after packing his belongings, while two children observed the incident and recorded a short video.
The woman sought hospital treatment for injuries including bruising and scratches, and police were called.
The relationship between the two has since ended.
Aker has a previous conviction for domestic assault resulting in injury from 2017.
His lawyer, Christine Hagan, noted that alcohol contributed to his behavior, but he has since significantly reduced his drinking.
Sheriff Borthwick sentenced him to 150 hours of unpaid work, two years of supervision, and participation in a domestic abuse intervention program, and imposed conditions including notifying his officer of new relationships and avoiding contact with the victim for three years.
