A notorious Fife creep is back in the dock as Robert Barrett, 55, is jailed for flashing an explicit photo to a woman in a support chat — just years after he terrorised another woman with filthy messages.December 2025: A Fife man who sent an explicit picture to a woman from a group he was part of has been jailed for more than six months.
Robert Barratt, 55, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after earlier pleading guilty to intentionally causing the woman to look at a sexual image of an erect penis on June 7 this year.
Prosecutor Amy Robertson told the court the woman was in a “group chat” as a support network for group members and obtained his mobile number there.
After concerns about content Barratt posted in the chat, she contacted him directly, and he sent the image without her consent, making her uncomfortable.
Defence lawyer Christine Hagan said Barratt has no recollection of the offence due to alcohol consumption, and he has previous convictions.
Sheriff Krista Johnston sentenced him to 200 days in jail, emphasizing society’s disapproval and deterrence, and ordered him to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
—————————————————————————————————— December 2022: A man from Fife has admitted repeatedly sending explicit messages to a woman after buying a household item from her, leaving her frightened because he knew where she lived.
Robert Barrett, 52, contacted the woman on social media after arranging to collect a lamp she had advertised for sale.
They had never met prior to this exchange.
The day after picking up the lamp, he began sending her messages, and over the following two days the content became increasingly sexual.
He suggested having sex with her and sent a series of crude comments despite receiving no replies.
Prosecutors told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court that the woman grew distressed, particularly because Barrett had already been to her home, and she reported the situation to the police.
Officers investigated and later charged him.
Barrett, from Hanover Court in Glenrothes, admitted engaging in conduct that caused fear or alarm by repeatedly sending unsolicited sexual messages between November 8 and 10.
The charge falls under section 39(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010, the legislation covering stalking-type behaviour.
His defence solicitor said that although the messages were sexual, she did not believe they demonstrated an underlying pattern of deviant behaviour.
She also told the court he has struggled with alcohol.
The court will consider on January 20 whether the behaviour has a significant sexual component that would justify placing him on the sex offenders register.
Sheriff Alison McKay deferred sentencing until that date, instructing Barrett to remain of good behaviour in the meantime.
