DOMESTIC ABUSER DISLOCATED PARTNER'S SHOULDER
A man from Douglas, aged 66, has been sentenced to over three years in prison after admitting to abusing and assaulting his partner, resulting in multiple injuries including a dislocated shoulder.Wilson White entered a guilty plea in court to charges of domestic abuse and causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard that he had also physically assaulted her by dragging her by the hair, verbally abused her, and hit her following a family event.
In a victim impact statement, the woman described how White’s actions had "devastated" her and damaged her self-esteem.
On September 8, White returned home from work, consumed alcohol, and expressed annoyance about an upcoming visit from his partner’s adult children, who were concerned about her wellbeing.
Court evidence detailed that White was both verbally aggressive and physically violent, dragging her across the floor by her hair and telling her, "You're not welcome here," before she struggled to get into bed.
The next day, her children called emergency services, and paramedics took her to hospital where doctors diagnosed her dislocated shoulder and noted bruising on multiple parts of her body caused by blunt force trauma.
Prosecutors outlined previous incidents, including one in Belfast where police found a hostel room for the woman after White had been abusive, and another at his sister’s house after he assaulted her following a family event.
The woman also stated that White did not approve of her social outings, which made her feel "depressed" and increasingly reliant on him.
She said in her statement that the September incident was "not the first time he hit me, but it was the last." She expressed her readiness to go to court and face him, despite White changing his plea prior to his trial.
His defence said he suffers from alcohol dependence and feels shame for his actions.
Deemster Graeme Cook criticized White’s conduct, calling it "appalling," and questioned how any person could behave toward another in such a manner.
White was sentenced to three years and four months in prison and will be under a domestic abuse protection order indefinitely.
