A man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep and videoed it has been jailed for three years.Karl Wicklow, 36, was convicted at trial for two counts of indecent assault on the same date between March and June 2023.The footage, which had been covertly recorded by Wicklow, showed him assaulting the woman while she was lying unresponsive on the sofa, Douglas Courthouse heard.The victim said she had been left "terrified" and "disrupted" and struggled to cope, describing it as one of the darkest moments of her life.She reported feeling "lost as a person" and having no knowledge of the video until the police informed her, which she found "devastating." She confided she was "terrified," seeing herself in the video and not understanding what was happening.
Her victim impact statement detailed nightmares and dissociation due to the trauma, and she expressed hope that the conviction was a step toward moving on.Deemster Sandeep Kainth sentenced Wicklow to three years in prison, stating: "You have been convicted of two serious sexual assaults" against a woman in a vulnerable, unresponsive state.
Wicklow is now on the sex offenders register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order until further notice.
