JAIL SENTENCE FOR JACK MALLABY IN DOUGLAS CASE FOLLOWING 25-MINUTE ATTACK

A man who caused his partner a fractured cheekbone during a 25-minute assault has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison. Jack Mallaby, from Douglas, launched numerous punches at the woman in what was described as a "protracted attack" that also resulted in her with a "ripped ear." Douglas Courthouse was told that Mallaby claimed the assault, which occurred in May 2023, was an act of self-defense, but he was ultimately convicted of domestic abuse following a trial. The court also imposed a five-year restraining order to prevent him from contacting his victim.

The court heard that Mallaby's assault on the then-17-year-old victim happened inside a caravan after an argument between them on 14 May 2023. During the assault, he reportedly straddled the woman, slammed her head against the side of the caravan, and punched her multiple times.

A victim impact statement shared in court conveyed the psychological toll of the attack, with the victim stating it had left her fearful of going out in public for fear of encountering Mallaby.

Deemster Sandeep Kainth described the attack as "very unpleasant," noting that it caused "significant long-term injuries" to the victim. He also commented that Mallaby, by pleading not guilty and allowing the case to go to trial, demonstrated he was still "in denial" about his actions.
