A man who subjected a woman to a prolonged and profoundly disturbing assault, which involved choking and rape, has been sentenced to 18 years and nine months in prison.
Jon-Paul Fayle, aged 32, carried out the attack on the night of 24 November 2023.
The Douglas Courthouse was informed that he secured a flat in Douglas, locked the door, and hid the key to prevent her from leaving.
The victim managed to escape the premises the next morning and subsequently reported the incident to a nearby shopkeeper.
Deemster Graeme Cook stated that Fayle showed no remorse for his actions, which profoundly impacted the victim.
Fayle was convicted in September of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault after a trial.
According to court testimony, Fayle overpowered the woman, threatened more violence if she attempted to leave, and subjected her to repeated choking and abuse during the attack.
