PAEDOPHILE WHO ABUSED VICTIMS OVER 28 YEARS JAILED

A paedophile whose "disgusting behaviour" had a "devastating" impact on his four victims over a period of three decades has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Paul Whysall, now 80 years old, engaged in abuse of three boys starting from when they were 11 years old and also assaulted a 19-year-old woman between 1995 and 2023, as revealed in Douglas Courthouse.

When he was arrested on 29 September 2023, authorities found 51 indecent images and one indecent video, including one rated in the most serious category.

The court heard that Whysall was a "sexual predator" since the mid-1990s, having committed 22 counts of indecent assault and nine counts of making indecent images.

The defendant, from Douglas, would also wear women's underwear and display it to his victims as part of his grooming process.

All three child victims described feeling "confused" and "scared" during the abuse.

A victim statement read in court from one man, who was assaulted from age 11 over six years, expressed feelings of "shame and guilt." Another victim, assaulted over a 12-year span since age 11, said: "Thinking back makes me physically sick.

I was a happy kid, he took my happiness away from me.

I don't feel any sentence Paul receives will ever make me feel better." A third victim, also around 11 or 12, felt they had been "sexualised from a young age." Deemster Graeme Cook condemned the offending as "disgusting" and described it as going "beyond anyone's imagination." The court sentenced Whysall to 12 years imprisonment and placed him under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, banning him from contacting victims or having contact with children.

The judge emphasized that "your behaviour against them has had a devastating effect," acknowledging that some victims may never recover, but expressing hope that they will in time.
