WILLIAM SMITH FROM MILFORD HAVEN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN SWANSEA

In January 2007, William Frederick Smith, a 57-year-old former police officer from Milford Haven, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving young girls.

Smith, who previously served with the Ministry of Defence police, was found guilty of raping two young girls and indecently assaulting a third girl, all of whom were only 12 years old at the time of the offenses.

During the court proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, Smith appeared in the dock and was visibly distressed, twice collapsing as Judge Michael Burr delivered the sentence.

The judge detailed that Smith had admitted to committing over 30 separate offenses against the victims, highlighting the severity and extent of his crimes.

Judge Burr emphasized the profound psychological impact these crimes had inflicted upon the victims, stating that they had suffered significant emotional trauma and that this suffering was likely to persist for many years.

The court also imposed strict conditions on Smith’s future, including a lifelong ban from working with children and a requirement to register as a sex offender with the police for the remainder of his life.

As of May 2014, it was announced that Smith was scheduled for release later that year, with updates on his status to follow.

The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating effects of child abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
