WILLIAM MOORE OF MACCLESFIELD SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Macclesfield, William Moore, aged 61 and commonly known as Bill, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 25 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving three young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a period of time, included grooming, sexual assault, and other related charges, all committed within the confines of Moore's residence on Cedar Grove. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Moore’s manipulative behavior towards his victims. One of the girls testified that Moore had asked her to take explicit photographs of herself and send them to him, a request that she found distressing and coercive. The victims were also subjected to threats and intimidation, with Moore allegedly telling them that no one would believe their accounts if they reported him. This tactic appeared to be part of his effort to silence and control his victims.
During the trial at Chester Crown Court, the jury heard from the victims and examined evidence collected during police searches of Moore’s home. Among the items found was underwear belonging to one of the victims, which was discovered in Moore’s bedside table, further implicating him in the crimes.
Moore’s defense attempted to deny the allegations, with a statement read out in court by the judge in which Moore claimed that the victims had fabricated their stories. He also denied ever taking photographs of the girls, suggesting that any such images found on his phone must have been taken by the victims themselves. Moore stated, “I don’t know how those photographs got on my phone, she must have taken them. I would rather have a cup of tea than have sexual intercourse with somebody. I am not desperate, I have done nothing wrong. I am not a paedophile.”
Despite his denials, the court found Moore guilty of multiple charges, including rape, indecent assault, indecency with a child, sexual activity with a child, and perverting the course of justice. The judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison on July 6, and ordered him to sign the sexual harm prevention register and the sexual offenders register, where he will remain indefinitely.
The case has left a lasting impact on the Macclesfield community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse. Moore’s actions and subsequent conviction serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who abuse positions of trust for their own gratification.
