PAROLED RAPIST CARMARNI CRAWFORD TO HAVE PRIVATE HEARING DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS
A parole hearing for Carmarni Crawford, who was sentenced in 2015 to a 12-year prison term with an additional six years on license, is set to be conducted privately because of health issues.Crawford was found guilty of a serious crime where he held a woman captive in a Macclesfield flat for 12 hours, during which he assaulted her and administered drugs.
It was reported that he sent text messages to his sister, bragging about the offence.
During the attack, Crawford force-fed his victim large quantities of prescription medication, trying to keep her drugged for two days so he could withdraw money from her account once the post office opened.
The victim managed to escape when Crawford fell asleep.
Caroline Corby, Chair of the Parole Board for England and Wales, explained that Crawford’s health problem might hinder his ability to give evidence publicly.
She added that the case does not provide additional insights into the parole system for the public.
Crawford has been granted a confidential hearing, with the victim invited to contact the Parole Board if she wishes to attend.
The Board is considering facilitating the victim's presence at the hearing under specific conditions and support provisions.
The hearing will be private unless the victim decides to attend, consistent with plans to introduce victim attendance support measures across England and Wales in 2024.
