MACCLESFIELD MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR ARSON ATTACKS ON FLATS
A Macclesfield man who exhibited aggressive and threatening behaviour has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following an arson attack on a block of flats. On the night of February 11, Jack Robinson, 25, was captured on CCTV purchasing a jerry can and fuel from a petrol station at around 10.30pm, using his girlfriend Kayleigh Woods' card.
Robinson attempted to ignite a fire at Pennine Court Flats by pouring an entire jerry can of petrol over the front door and setting it alight.
Fortunately, the fire extinguished itself before causing significant damage.
Robinson, who now resides on London Road, Sandbach, but is a former resident of Macclesfield, pleaded guilty to charges of arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, criminal damage, and threatening to damage property.
He was also involved in a threatening message to his ex-girlfriend, saying 'you got was was cumming [sic]'.
His partner, Kayleigh Woods, 26, of Stockport, admitted helping Robinson escape, claiming she did so out of 'fear and love'.
Robinson's actions showed disregard for the residents living in the flats, with police noting that his behavior put hundreds of people at risk.
The fire door was protective enough to burn out before any massive damage occurred, averting what could have been a disastrous outcome.
Detective Constable Alison Shields remarked that the sentence underscores the severity of Robinson's crimes and praised the police for their efforts in apprehending him.
The incident was linked to Robinson's bullying behaviour and attitude towards women, stemming from a domestic dispute involving an ex-girlfriend.
Woods received a two-year prison sentence suspended for 18 months and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
