MACCLESFIELD WOMAN DRAGS GIRLFRIEND ALONG THE STREET DURING VIOLENT ATTACK
A woman was physically dragged along the floor by her hair by her girlfriend during a savage drunken assault.Barbara Alice Patrick, aged 23, engaged in a series of punches against the woman on Mill Street in Macclesfield, a court heard.
On two instances, the victim sought refuge inside a takeaway while Patrick continued her assault on staff members who tried to assist her.
Patrick, residing on Rutland Road in Macclesfield, admitted to two counts of assault during a hearing at Stockport magistrates’ court.
It was also revealed that both individuals had inflicted substantial violence during their often turbulent relationship, which has since ended.
Prosecutor Robin Lynch said: “The victim was involved with the defendant in a highly unstable relationship.
“Prior to the incident, police had received numerous calls from both parties, some on different days.
As a takeaway prepared to close, the victim ran inside shouting ‘leave me alone’ at the defendant.
“The defendant tried to remove her forcibly, but staff intervened.
The victim then was pulled along the ground by her hair and was struck multiple times.
“She eventually returned to the takeaway, hiding behind the counter.
The defendant tried to reach her but was held back by staff who then subdued her, allowing the victim to escape.
A probation officer informed the court that Patrick claimed to have been assaulted, including an incident where she said she was bitten on the ear.
Defence lawyer Clare Buchanan explained: “The two went out drinking and were intoxicated.
There’s a history of domestic violence, and the relationship has ended.
She intends to move to Southampton to escape the situation.
She has been estranged from her family since she was 14 and has largely been independent.
Some of her behaviour relates to her past convictions and her coming out as gay.” Magistrates called the incident ‘nasty’ and sentenced Patrick to 80 hours of unpaid work along with a 10-day Rehabilitation Activity requirement.
