A woman who was pregnant chose to have an abortion after fearing for her and her child's safety due to Tyrone Corbett's violent behavior.A man who inflicted physical abuse and threats over a three-year period has been sentenced to jail by Leeds Crown Court.
From March 2019 to March 2022, Tyrone Corbett, aged 31 and living on Humber Close, Castleford, engaged in a series of violent acts and intimidation tactics against his partner.
Court proceedings revealed Corbett spat at the woman during one violent episode.
According to prosecutor John Batchelor, Corbett admitted to controlling and coercive conduct, with many violent attacks leaving her with injuries captured on her phone footage.
He also believed he caused her miscarriage through his assault.
The initial episode of violence took place in March 2022, triggered by alcohol, which was common in their relationship.
What started as playful fighting turned violent when Corbett spat at her and threw lamps.
The woman experienced a panic attack and begged him to cease.
The court heard that the victim described Corbett threatening to kill her repeatedly, damaging doors, and physically assaulting her by pushing her downstairs, strangling her, attempting to throw her out of a window, and trying to force her face into dog dirt.
She also recounted catching him in bed with another person.
During her pregnancy, Corbett reportedly threw a metal bar at her and choked her while she lay on the bed.
Due to ongoing fears, she decided to terminate her pregnancy.
The prosecutor emphasized that on many occasions, she believed he might kill her.
Defense attorney Mark Luxford stated that Corbett has issues with domestic violence and was seeking help, with no prior domestic crime record.
Corbett, a father of one who uses antidepressants and cares for his mother, lives in a council house which could be at risk if he is imprisoned.
The judge, Clark, sentenced Corbett to three years in prison.
As he was taken away, Corbett called out, “Love you mum.”
