COURT SENTENCES OFFENDER FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
Aaron Curtis, a 31-year-old man from Castleford, was handed a suspended prison sentence after attacking his partner in two separate incidents.
The court heard that during a violent outburst at his ex's home in Castleford on July 30, Curtis, who was jealous and accused her of cheating, threw broken paving slabs at her legs, causing cuts and bruises.
Two weeks later, on August 13, Curtis attacked her again during an evening of drinking with family and friends.
He pushed her against a wheelie bin, shouted at her, then grabbed her around the neck and punched her repeatedly.
He also attempted to gouge her eyes in front of her family, and after his partner’s father intervened, Curtis told him, 'Go on then.
Swing for me.
I’ll kill you you b*****d.' His partner suffered injuries including cuts and bruises, and there was concern she might have fractured her cheekbone, although this was not confirmed.
Curtis then sat on the sofa, rolled a joint, and made a comment blaming his partner for his violence.
He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one of assault by beating, and possession of cannabis.
The court sentenced him to an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years, with requirements including 40 rehabilitation activity days, a curfew from 7pm to 7am, and participation in an alcohol treatment programme.
The judge expressed strong disapproval of his behavior, stating, 'Nothing is more disgusting and squalid than a grown man using violence towards a woman.
I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself.' Curtis was also ordered to live with his mother for three months to address his drinking problem.
