VIOLENT ADDICT KICKED AND PUNCHED GIRLFRIEND WHEN SHE ACCUSED HIM OF CHOOSING HEROIN OVER HER
A man with a history of drug addiction assaulted his girlfriend after she accused him of prioritizing heroin over her.
Jordan Stares, 26, lost his composure and attacked the woman at their home in Leeds when she suggested he had relapsed into heroin use.
She was aware of his past struggles with addiction, but believed he had been clean until November last year.
During the argument, she remarked that he seemed to prefer heroin to her, prompting Stares to lash out by kicking and punching her for about a minute.
The assault left her with scratches, bruises, head pain, and her nose ring pulled out.
He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
Stares, from Castleford, has prior convictions for battery against a former partner in 2016, which resulted in a suspended 12-week sentence.
In his defense, his lawyer Nicholas Hammond noted that the couple met through work, though they no longer work at the same place.
Hammond highlighted that Stares is a diligent worker who has secured two promotions over his eight years at his employer.
He emphasized that Stares genuinely regrets his actions and seeks to understand his violent behavior.
Leeds Crown Court Judge Guy Kearl KC sentenced him to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, along with rehabilitation days, 100 hours of community service, and a five-year restraining order to prevent contact with the victim.
