A brutal rapist who stabbed his victim during a terrifying and prolonged ordeal has been jailed.Kevin Lemm attacked the woman on Bridge Street in Castleford, stabbing her with a knife and raping her during a prolonged assault.
The 37-year-old, of Denton Terrace, Castleford, has now been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of nine years following a hearing at Leeds Crown Court.
The female victim sustained serious and life-changing injuries.
Lemm was detained a few hours after the attack and faced charges of rape, section 18 wounding, threats to kill, robbery, and possession of a bladed article.
He admitted guilt to the offences.
Detectives have described this case as one of the worst they have seen.
Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: 'Lemm subjected his victim to a horrendous and sustained attack in which he raped and stabbed her with a knife in what was a frightening and horrific ordeal.
The victim has been left with life-changing injuries and is coming to terms with what happened to her.
Cases of this nature are extremely rare and I applaud the victim's bravery in coming forward.
I am pleased Lemm pleaded guilty early on, sparing her from a trial, and hope the sentence provides her justice and closure.
Anyone who has suffered a sexual crime is encouraged to report it, as we have specially trained officers to support them.'
